Risanare l’esistente [Refurbishing existing buildings] provides design strategies and techniques for designing the refurbishment of existing buildings skin in terms of energy efficiency and internal comfort. The book is divided in three sections. The first section explains an innovative approach to the building energy-efficient refurbishment. The second part provides the evaluation of the thermal and hygrometric performances of different types of common skin components before and after the energy-efficient refurbishment. Finally the third part identifies the main thermal bridges on the existing building skin, and shows their refurbishment in terms of energy efficiency and comfort focusing on performances and technical aspects. The refurbishment of the building skin is illustrated in detail, and each proposal is described from the technical point of view. The text includes tables, graphics, three-dimensional models and an appendix of  adopted evaluation procedures and methods.
